  Stargate-BFM Mod Update - Leaving the Battlefield - Mods

Well, not quite. The Stargate-BFM mod team (what's left of it anyway) has decided to stop development for Battlefield 2 and just wait for Battlefield 2142. There are numerous reasons for this, some of which are below:

Hi everyone, I know it has been a long time since Stargate BFM has posted any news out to the community. We have been facing many difficulties. The person who was to develop our website disappeared without a trace, many of our dev team moved on and our forum was attacked by Turkish hackers to name but a few. Today I have two items which I would like to reveal to you.

Unfortunately, it is with great sadness that I announce that Stargate BFM will not be released on the Battlefield 2 engine as we had anticipated. The reason for this being, we feel that the community has not been provided with an adequate method of modding the engine. Battlefield 1942 and Vietnam had modding systems that made sense, they were fun to mod. The BF2 Editor takes the fun away from modding, it makes adding things into the game long and tiresome, even more so than scripting vehicles by hand in Battlefield 1942 (which I might add was more satisfying, it allowed you to see everything that you have done).

Some of you may have noticed on our forums that several of our modelers have been working non-stop producing top quality models for the Stargate mod, which we plan to use when we begin work on Battlefield 2142. This is another one of the reasons why we are abandoning Battlefield 2, with the upcoming release of 2142, any work we produce on BF2, would gain less interest, such as our 0.3 release on Battlefield 1942 several months ago, which several news sites, including one in the IGN/Gamespy network (whom will remain nameless) that is supposed to be dedicated to bringing you, the community the news about all battlefield related items, chose to ignore. For those of you who have seen the E3 demonstration of 2142, you would know that the game features a new game type, Titan Mode. We feel that we can exploit this to bring you battles you never would have been able to create in 1942 or BF2. We will be able to deliver battles similar to those which you have seen in the Stargate series, including an infamous battle over the Antarctic. Space battles would be a reality, having to control stations to take down the enemy ship's shields.

So to sum up, Stargate BFM will be discontinuing on BF2, but will continue production on 2142. Stay tuned to our website for further updates.


Well, it's sad to hear that the development has stopped for Battlefield 2, but I'm looking forward to playing it in Battlefield 2142. I'm sure it would be a lot more fun anyway! For the record, we were a strong supporter of Stargate-BFM for Battlefield 1942 and you can download their mod here.

It's for the better, BF2142 will most likely be more space oriented anyways which would fit for with the theme. Good luck and we'll keep checking you guys out!

BF2142 is using exactly the same engine as BF2 so you will find exactly the same problems moding it. BTW, you still can code BF2 with Notepad.

BF2142 is not using the EXACT same engine, it is an engine that has been modified

Lets put it this way. BF2 is coke, BF2142 is pepsi. There both basically the same, just a few minor differences.


This move dosnt look like it was thought out very well..would make more sence abandoning the BF franchise completely because you know EA will announce something soon after BF2142.

That's like saying BFV is using the exact same engine as 1942: A very true statement, but there are really small differences. Not an awful lot though.

That's not true neither, BfV had important diferences, like normal mapping, undergrowth and overgrowth, heightmap cutting to get tunnels, etc.

BF42, BfV and BF2 are very diferent, BF2142 is an expensive BF2 mod, nothing revolutionary here

As i said before, BF2142 is using a modified engine, and for um #4, i do know what i'm talking about, it's you and everyone else who doesn't, it's your negative minds about BF2142 that makes you guys think these things that arn't entirely true, you're pathetic

Dude, I don't give a damn about BF2142, I am not interested at all in flame it or suck its ass. I am a very expert Battlefield moder and I tell you it's technically the same engine with some slight python changes and some code lines added, but definitely not a new one. If the Stargate boys think it will be diferent to be modded I am afraid they will find exactly the same problems as in BF2. Okay?

I knew this mod was gonna crack sooner or later there quality of work was not that good either and this was just another failed attempt at a star gate mod which has been tried 100's of times on all game engines and ended up being failed.

As for the 2 engine differences I highly doubt there will be much of a difference same crap from the game nazis at EA. EA is a virus.

This is kinda why i lef the SG: BFM modding team after the release of the 1942 version. It took the whole team 3 years just to make SG: BFM for 1942, and look at how lame it turned out. The team is lazy, I'll put it that way. Yeah, they have worked harder since the change to BF2, but not by much. The real reason this mod is falling apart is because our project leader, DeathGlyder, left after the final relaese to 1942. Ever since Hangman's been leading, the team got lazy. If only DeathGlyder would come back. Then this mod would probably turn out the way its supposed to, if not better.

BF2142 uses an updated BF2 engine. An engine which has been refined an updated aprox. 18 months since the "final" build of the BF2 engine. Thus it's technically nothing the same.

And nobody here can tell me, that BFV and BF1942 had "the same engine". While both BFV and 1942 had the same engine in its core, the BFV version had been tweaked/optimized etc a great deal over the one used in 1942. This included adding new features such as normal mapping. Those here who say that BF2142 is nothing more then an expensive mod, need to think again. Cause 2142 is basically to BF2 what BFV was to 1942. BFV introduced a great deal of features that 1942 could never hope to have had. And I believe the same goes for 2142 compared to BF2.

You have told by yourself, the diferences in BF42 and BfV are really huge, included normal mapping, all alone a big step. This doesn't happen in BF2142, hell, I guess they have tweaked some shaders but it's practically the same, c'mon, they are even using the animations of the BF2 soldiers.

What I am trying to say this is not BF3, there is not here a real step forward, it's BF2 with some slight improvements. Indeed for a sci-fi mod like Stargate can have interesting new features, but the moding work will be exactly as tough as in BF2.

does this meen no stargate mod on bf2?
cus i hate 2142 with a passion, it was a big waste of money and a let down compared 2 bf2 wich is awesome. but thats not my point.......are there any stargate mods for bf2 out now apart from the alpha on this site which ive dowloaded?
