With this news update, we will present you four new maps included one Battlefield 1942 map that we have converted into a First World War battlefield. This map called Battleaxe1918 is based on the Battlefield 1942 map Battleaxe. The map is made by Amoghektor and Cicero. Its the same map but with much more bunkers, trenches, planes and tanks. Also the same nations will fight againtst each other. Britian vs Germany.
The follow maps are maps made by the Belgian player and mapper Fritz Kempf who have force to quit as major mapper because his military service in his lovely Belgian army. However, he will stil try to publish movies, news etc... With the entrance of the Belgian army in version 3.1 – with the ingame voices of Fritz Kempf – we will have a few maps where the Belgians will fight againts the Germany army. One of them is already presented, namely Battle of Haelen, and we will now show you two other Belgian vs Germany maps. The Liberation of Roeselare took place in the West-Flanders town of Roeselare, 24 km or 15 miles at the north of Ypres, on October 14, 1918 during the Advance in Flanders or the Battle of the Peaks of Flanders. After the fall of Liege & Antwerp in 1914, the Belgians retreated behind the Yser in October 1914 & opened the locks at Nieuwpoort during the night of 28 to 29 October 1914, so that the battlefield between the Yser & the railway was put under water. The Belgians were in defense behind the railroad until late summer 1918 so they never did with major offensives between 1914 & 1918, which the Belgian army was still strong. During the late summer of 1918, the Entente focused on the liberation of Belgium. Army Group of Flanders (G.A.F.), under the command of King Albert I, attacking in the north from the Ypres Salient to Brussels while the British Commonwealth armies and the Americans attacked in the center and south of the Ypres Salient to Courtrai. On October 14 they attacking & liberated Roeselare. The map show a little piece of the city. With the streets, canal, station and factory sector based on the true city of Roeselare. Its the first map in Battlefield 1918 that combines fighting on the fields, in streets, between factories, between trains and in a harbour. The sounds in this map make it realistic.
The other map is Ramskapelle that you can find in the modification as the Battle of the Yser. Like we already said in the presentation of Roeselare, the Belgians retreated behind the Yser in October 1914 & opened the locks at Nieuwpoort during the night of 28 to 29 October 1914, so that the battlefield between the Yser & the railway was put under water. After the Belgians put the battlefield between the Yser River & the railroad under water defence the Belgian & French army behind this flooded battlefield & railway. Despite the Germans had it not easy to break through the defense, they have capture the Belgian town of Ramskapelle (near Nieuwpoort) on October 30, 1914, that located just behind the flooded battlefield & the railroad while the water then rose. Three Belgian infantry regiments along with two French units, were ordered to attack & capture Ramskapelle. But a German machinegun near the windmill did stop the attack. The next day, the Belgians & French tried again to conquer the village, with success. The map show two villages. Ramskapelle where the fights will took place and Mannekensvere with the German HQ. Between those villages flows the river Yser that broke from its banks because the opening of the ports at Nieuwpoort. The Belgian HQ took place in a farm at the South-East of Ramskapelle. The Belgians have to attack on feet and with a Minerva armored Car via wheatfields, plowed field and a horse field with little cover, while the Germans stands in the houses of Ramskapelle and near the windmill with a machingun and fieldguns. The Belgian scouts in the balloon, that also will be add in the newest version, will give targets for the Belgian artillery. With this, the Belgians can win this battle and push the Germans out the village. After they have push the Germans out the village, the Belgians will defence along the railroad and in the trainstation. However, the Germans have also a balloon, a battery with tree sFH13 howitzer and one Big Bertha. Who will win this battle? The Germans or the Belgians? The map combines fighting on the fields and in the streets with realistic places like a cemetery, a village, wheatfields and trainwagons.
The next map took place in 1917 during the Third Battle of Ypres or the Battle of Passchendaele. The map called Broodseinde and its a battle between the Anzacs and the Germans. On 25 & 26 September 1917, during the Third Battle of Ypres, the British reached Kansas Cross, while the Australians reached Polygon Wood & Zonnebeke. Now the 1st and 2nd ANZAC Corp will be up against the new German units, the Eingreifdivisionen, to capture Broodseinde & Tyne Cottage on October 4. After weeks of rain, the battlefields are like swamps and the trenches are filled with water. The objectives are on or behind the Flandern I Stellung, a major German line in the Ypres Salient heavy armed with bunkers and deadly weapons. The new German units proved unsuccessful and the ANZACS have reached their objectives with heavy casualties. The map shows this battlefield. The Anzacs have a HQ in the destroyed town of Zonnebeke, between Passchendaele and Ypres, along a railroad and in the Dochy Farm. The stream Hanebeek flows through the battlefields. The Germans got a weak defence line along this stream in the farms Springfield and the Seine. While the Germans have two strong lines named Flandern I Stellung (with quarters in the farm Tyne Cottage, Thames Farm and the hamlet of Broodseinde on the hill just behind the line) and the Artillerie-Schutz-Stellung (that have a battery with five sFH13 howitzers, a flammenbunker, light fieldguns, machineguns and a dugout. The battlefields hows the (detroyed) trenches filled with water, the battlefields with his crates and destroyed houses and trees. Also the destroyed church of Zonnebeke. The ANZACS have to attack the Germans positions on the strong Flandern I Stellung and Broodseinde with tanks and on feet. While they have support of heavy Flying Pig Mortars, a mobile Pomp Pom AA-gun, a battery with Ordnance BL 6 inch 26cwt howitzers and the new heavy Ordnance BL 9.2 inch howitzer. The Germans have to defence the Flandern I Stellung and Broodseinde with heavy howitzers, light fieldguns and machineguns outside and inside bunkers, with mortars and flamethrowers with support of deadly Stormtroopers who wear body armor.
About the Third Battle of Ypres or Battle of Passchendaele, a film was made called Passchendaele. This movie shows the fights between the Canadians and Germans for the village of Passchendaele. On the end of the movie, the movie shows the destroyed battlefields of Passchendaele in the air. This is a good sight how it was 94 years ago. The map Broodseinde is based on the true battlefields of Passchendaele in 1917.
